Friedman Edge Reading Room
Show the source. Label the interpretation.
The library is designed so a reader can tell what a court or legislature said from what Friedman & Associates thinks it means. Those are different records, with different labels and different review rules.
01 · Primary law
Cases contain the opinion—not our argument.
A case page presents the judicial opinion as the source record. Factual metadata, citation tools, and provenance sit outside the opinion. Friedman commentary does not appear beneath or inside the opinion.
02 · Editorial
Our analysis lives in The Policyholder’s Edge Blog.
Blog posts, practical explanations, and opinions are labeled as Friedman editorial work and identify their author. They may link to primary sources, but they do not replace them.
03 · Documents
Source files keep their own identity.
Court-filed exhibits, public records, and manufacturer records are classified as documents. The record should identify the originating file, the hosted copy, and any relevant page or exhibit number without turning the source file into a case opinion.
04 · Corpus releases
The website is not a live database dependency.
Machine consumers receive a dated, checksummed corpus release. A release is reviewed before publication and remains addressable after a newer release exists. BlackBox should consume that versioned mirror rather than scrape the live Reading Room.
05 · Source validation
Opinion identity is checked separately from legal treatment.
Each mirrored case is matched to an official court source or reporter archive for citation, decision year, and opinion completeness. The validation record also seals the exact mirrored text distributed to machine consumers. That check is not a citator result and does not establish that a case remains good law; BlackBox must keep a case out of claim targeting until a separate treatment review is complete.
06 · Legal currency
A later enacted session law outranks a stale compiled page.
Statutes carry a legal status and effective interval. We check enacted session laws before labeling compiled code current, preserve repealed text as historical authority, and link each superseded record to its successor. A machine consumer must have an applicable jurisdiction and governing date before selecting between temporal versions; missing or conflicting dates stop the selection.
07 · Review
Source stewardship and release approval are separate acts.
A source steward prepares the record. A release reviewer checks classification, provenance, URL continuity, and corpus integrity. A release should not be labeled reviewed until both steps are complete.
08 · Corrections
Report a source or metadata problem.
Send the page URL, the disputed text or field, and a supporting source to clientexperience@representation.claims. Source-text issues are investigated against the cited record; metadata and broken-link corrections are logged with the next corpus release.
